Happy New Year!
Haitian Outreach had a successful 2015 and will begin preparations for the 2016 school year in the spring. A total of 100 bins filled to the brim with backpacks, clothing, food, a new pair of shoes, and school supplies have been shipped to Haiti. The cost for shipping to Haiti is our greatest expense.
A total of 250 children have received support for tuition, a uniform, and immunizations. Backpacks will be distributed in March when we arrive. We presently assist 5 different private schools in Haiti. The Sisters of the Immaculate Queen Mary Order have asked us to assist them get a 6th school up and running in Des Coteaux, Haiti. The two Sisters will teach the children on tarps and sheets outside as they don’t have a building. They will live in a shack with no running water. We were able to send household items to help them get started.
God graced us with space and funding to assist these poor children in 2015. Unfortunately, in 2015 we lost one of our benefactors, who passed away, and we will no longer be able to depend on the funding to assist with sponsorships. We will continue to send tuition, and backpacks to the children sponsored in our program. We will no longer be able to fund students who are not sponsored for the 2016 school year. We have 3 students who will graduate from college in 2016. We are very proud of them and their hard work making them successful working citizens of Haiti.
Please keep us in your prayers for a safe trip in March: Deacon John, Pauline, Rose Mary, Muriel, Jeannette, Joan, Greg, Mary from California, Paula & Bill, Christina, Jolene and Karen from Martha’s Vineyard. It is our pleasure to deliver the backpacks filled with so much care and love and to meet the sponsored children.
As in the past January is Haitian Outreach month at St. Bernard’s @ St. Camillus parish. A suggested list of donations is on this page. If you know of anyone who would like to sponsor a child, or have any questions about sponsoring a child, please call Pauline Aliskevicz at 978-807-4397 or go to our website: www.haitianoutreach.net . You can pick a child to sponsor and use PayPal on our website. It is fast and easy.
Please place all donated items in the bins at the doors of the church. Monetary donations can be placed in an envelope labeled “Haitian Outreach” and placed in the weekly collection baskets.
