Disney in Latin America

The Disney characters I've found painted on many walls appear familiar, yet at the same time look very different. Many have their own unique style. I've seen Mickey's proportions and ear sizes vary greatly. For me, the paintings invoke warm reminders of home while at the same time remind me that I am very far away.

European Discovery

Upon Columbus's first voyages to the new word, Cuba was mistaken for Japan while Florida was thought to be mainland China.

Figure 1

"By superimposing a modern world map over the surface of the 1492 Marin Behaim Globe, we can visualize Columbus's concept of where he was, following his Bahamas landings, in relation to Cipangu and the Asian mainland." [1]
